Dental Crown Placement

A dental crown is one of the most common treatments for teeth with extensive decay or damage. They can also hold a dental bridge in place, cover misshapen or discolored teeth or cover up a tooth following a root canal. Here at Fishkill Dental Group, we have decades of experience in placing dental crowns for patients of all ages.

Crowns are made of either porcelain-fused-to-metal, ceramic or gold. It takes a multi-step process to place your crown. First, a dental impression is made. Then a temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while the impression is created in an off-site laboratory. In some instances, same-day crowns can be created. With proper care, crowns can last up to 15 years.

Durable Dental Bridges

Dental bridges have been commonly used for centuries and are still considered a durable and cost-effective option to this day. They are used to bridge the gap between a missing tooth and its surrounding teeth. The bridge is comprised of two anchoring teeth and a replacement tooth and prevents surrounding teeth from drifting out of position while improving chewing and speaking, while also keeping your face's natural shape intact.

There are three types of dental bridges:

  • Traditional dental bridges - These have dental crowns or implants on either side of the missing tooth, along with a replacement tooth, which is held in place by a dental abutment.
  • Cantilever dental bridges - These are used when there are surrounding teeth only on one side of the missing tooth.
  • Maryland bridges - These bridges are made of a specialized resin cemented to a metal framework as well as the enamel of the surrounding teeth.

Dental bridges usually take 2-3 weeks to complete. They are also less invasive than other options such as implants. With proper care, your dental bridge can last for up to 30 years.
